A good number of people don’t give a damn about politics. Consequently, a good number of people don’t vote. Historically, like much of every thing else, the statistics have always been markedly worse among eligible African-American voters.
Three Reasons Spike Lee Is Right
I run the risk of being thrown into the bastion of the Black bourgeois with this espouse, but I can't resist. During a 60 Minutes interview that aired on Sunday night, Tyler Perry is read aloud the following Spike Lee quote:
“I think there's a lot of stuff out today that is coonery and buffoonery. I see ads for 'Meet the Browns' and 'House of Payne' and I'm scratching my head. We've got a black president and we're going back. The image is troubling and it harkens back to Amos 'n' Andy."
Relax, It's My Choice
All this brouhaha about which texture, length, and appearance equates to “good” hair has created a trifle of resentment amongst relaxed hair wearers and I’d be lying to say that group didn’t include me. The question posed: are you less of a Black woman because you wear your hair relaxed or with extensions? Are you denying the history of your culture with this choice?
